Topic Examples
Importance of Growth in Spiritual Maturity
Many are under the misimpression that after making a profession of faith, there is no further calling. This is contrary to the Bible. Jesus called those who believed in Him to mature spiritually and become more like Him. This results in bearing the good fruit (works) for which they were created. Christ-followers are not saved by doing good works, they are saved to do good works.
Using Spiritual Disciplines God Provides to Mature Spiritually
God has provided many means to every Christ-follower. To find benefit, the Christ-follower must discipline themselves to these means of grace. This includes prayer, diligently studying, correctly interpreting, and applying Scripture, being discipled by other Christ-followers, walking in step with the Holy Spirit, and growing in trials and hardships God uses for spiritual growth.
The Importance of Prayer
Communicating with God in prayer is a blessing He bestows on Christ-followers and calls them to do as a regular practice. However, prayer is often used only in times of crisis. Everyone needs to grow in prayer for it is a means of grace He provides to talk and collaborate with Him in His will for each of us on earth.
Agape – Its True Meaning and Application
There is a misunderstanding about agape among Christ-followers. Some confuse it with a distant “phileo” type of love. Agape is a fervent love mediated by the Holy Spirit in the Christ-follower that is sacrificial, serves, submits, surrenders, is selfless, and is sustained.
Humility – First-Fruit Required for Spiritual Growth
The greatest example of humility was by Christ Jesus. However, it is neither emphasized nor modeled well in today’s church. Pride is a root sin deeply ingrained in every person, and is an obstacle for someone to be a vessel that God can use. Scripture makes it clear every Christ-follower must overcome pride and put on humility. It is a first-fruit necessary for spiritual growth.
Forgiveness – Impact on Our Lives
One of the greatest causes of disunity and broken relationships is unforgiveness. Jesus emphasized in the parable of the unforgiving servant that every Christ-follower has been forgiven a great debt, and in turn, must have unconditional forgiveness for all others.
The Central Role of Disciple-making by Elders in the Church
While every Christ-follower is called to the Great Commission, the Bible emphasizes the vital importance of disciple-making by elders.
Every Christ-follower is Called to Great Commission—Not Just Church Leaders
A central fruit to bear for every Christ-follower is making disciples. Some believe it is only the responsibility of church leaders. Paul made in clear in his letter to the church in Ephesus that the church leaders are charged with training all Christ-followers in their midst to accomplish the work of the ministry. However, the main work of ministry is to be done by the lay-persons in the church.
